The concept of “Go Green” highly favors organic agriculture to protect the health of people and the planet by reducing the overall exposure to toxic chemicals from synthetic pesticides that can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply, and that are associated with health consequences, from asthma to cancer. While many of us think of food when we think organic, there are great ways to bring green into our wardrobe because clothing industry is very big and the clothes we wear play an important role in our everyday life.

Due to the harmful effects of pesticides and synthetic materials on the individuals and environment, more and more people are now returning to natural and organic products. Organic clothing also represents a return to safe and sustainable practices. It is gradually winning people’s choice since there are no toxins or synthetic fertilizers that are harmful to environment. There are actually many different materials that organic clothing can be made from like hemp, soy, wool, cotton and bamboo, but the most popular among all is organic cotton.

No doubt, cotton is the world’s most popular fabric. Soft and comfortable, it’s used for almost every type of clothing; Socks, shirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets, sleepwear, sportswear and more – all begin in lush green fields of cotton but conventional cotton is also one of the most chemically-dependent crops, sucking up 10 percent of all agricultural chemicals and 25 percent of insecticides on 3 percent of our arable land; that’s more than any other crop per unit. Since cotton is the one of the most widely traded commodity (nearly half of all textile products produced), conventional cotton-growing leads to massive environmental and health problems.

The fact is that the problems with clothing production do not stop in the field. During the conversion of conventional cotton into clothing, numerous toxic chemicals are added at each stage – silicone waxes, harsh petroleum scours, softeners, brighteners, heavy metals, flame and soil retardants, ammonia and formaldehyde etc. which cause adverse effect on the environment. Developmental damage, respiratory problems, leukemia, allergies, eye irritation, and nervous system depression have all been linked to these industrial chemicals.

On the other hand, Organic cotton is grown with natural fertilizers to reduce the environmental impact of clothing production. Mechanical cultivation and biological means are used to control pests and weeds. Clothes made from organic cotton are pure, natural and more breathable for delicate skin like baby skin. Organic baby clothing is super soft against the skin and therefore very comfortable to wear, making it ideal for babies and children. Baby clothes made from organic cotton not only keep dangerous pesticides out of the environment, they keep them off your baby’s sensitive skin as well.

People with allergies and chemical sensitivity especially benefit from organic clothing, as there are no harmful toxic residues in it. Organic cotton clothing lasts longer due to its natural composition. From casual wear to sportswear, apparels can found in cotton organically raised. The fabric is so comfortable that the users love to wear them. You will never want to go for inorganic cotton once you buy an organic outfit.
